INJECTION UNIT WITH DEGASSING FOR TECHNICAL AND RECYCLED MATERIALS
A leading European molder, specialized in high-precision technical parts, needed to optimize an existing injection machine to reliably process hygroscopic and transparent materials such as PC, PMMA and PA, as well as recycled ABS.
The main challenges included melt stability, the presence of burn marks and cosmetic defects caused by volatile residue in recycled polymers.

During the initial assessment, the customer was uncertain whether to adopt a Ø36 mm or a Ø40 mm screw. Euroviti conducted a study based on the weights of the parts, identifying a maximum part weight of around 150 g in PC. The analysis showed that a Ø36 mm screw would force the machine to run at full stroke with suboptimal residence times—especially critical for sensitive polymers like polycarbonate.
As a result, the Ø40 mm screw was therefore selected to guarantee the correct melt volume and a stable plastification process.
Hence, also considering the presence of regrind materials, Euroviti engineered a complete injection unit designed specifically for effective degassing:
a Ø40 L/D 21 screw with vent, a dedicated barrel capable of efficiently removing residual moisture, and a custom-designed nozzle tailored to the client’s requirements.
The whole solution was developed to be fully compatible with the existing machine and heating bands, with no structural modifications required.
Thanks to the optimized L/D ratio and the degassing system, the process now delivers a cleaner and more stable melt, with fewer burn marks, improved surface quality, tighter cushion control and highly consistent results on recycled polymers.
In short, the upgraded unit performs exactly as intended—ensuring a consistent performance on PC, PMMA, ABS and PA, and expanding the overall flexibility of the molding cell.
The close collaboration between Euroviti and its local commercial partner enabled a fast and accurate technical workflow, from the nozzle geometry definition to the mechanical interface validation. Every step was approved by the customer without any additional corrections, allowing production to start quickly.
The result is an existing machine transformed into a more efficient, higher-performing platform—ready to handle the materials of the future, where recycled and technical polymers increasingly require expertly engineered degassing solutions.
